Workshop on Role of NGOs in Development Assistance

09.12.2011  |   Baxış sayı: 445

AAAThrough funding from multiple donors, we have been able to organize a workshop for members of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to be held in Baku on December 9, 10 and 11, 2011. The workshop will take place at the U.S. Azerbaijan Education Center (Caspian Business Center, 40 J. Jabbarli Street, 2nd Floor and Tel: (+99412) 437 13 46/ 437 14 95). Hours will be 09:00 until 15:00, each day.

The workshop is intended for NGO mid- to senior-level English speaking staff who seeks private and public sector funding for projects in Azerbaijan. We would like more than one representative from each NGO, up to three (for example the senior manager, project/program manager, and proposal director).

The workshop will add to their knowledge of project design, proposal development and fundraising skills. Thus, in addition to the review of the overall development assistance framework, the workshop will focus on effective proposal writing and assessing proposals against specific donor objectives. There will be discussions on how to pursue increased funding. There will be practical exercises that will allow you to have hands on experience on key workshop components. Results of practical exercises will be reviewed and suggestions will be provided for different methods to be employed for effectiveness. The gathering will also be an ideal opportunity for networking; you will get to meet your counterparts from other local NGOs and you will be encouraged to keep the relations you developed in the coming months for partnering on proposals and mentoring.

Our workshop facilitator will be Jerrold I. Keilson, who is an Adjunct Professorial Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and Policy of American University, Washington, DC. Mr. Keilson is also the Vice President and Senior Director of Business Development at Creative Associates International, an international consulting firm that supports education, democracy and community programs. He has been involved in international development for the past thirty years. Mr. Keilson began his career in international affairs as a Foreign Service officer in the State Department. He has a M.A. from the University of Massachusetts and a B.A. from Clark University, both on History.

Please note that electronic versions of reading materials will be made available prior to the workshop. It is important that participants become familiar with these documents before attending the workshop. Mr. Keilson would also like participants to come prepared or send in advance any active and actual proposals or concepts for fund-raising efforts they are engaged in, so that we may provide constructive feedback during the workshop.

We would like to notice that the workshop is part of a series of events on the role of NGOs in Development Assistance by AAA and IREX. The participants of the fundraising seminar in November by Dr. Liliya Wagner are, therefore, strongly encouraged to apply.
